Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25/06/2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Daata (“Daata”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Daata mobile application (the “App”) — a hyperlocal platform for giving away and finding free items. By using Daata, you agree to this Policy.

If you have questions, contact us at support@daata.in.

1. Who we are

Daata is operated by [LEGAL_ENTITY]. Daata lets neighbours give away items they no longer need, free of charge, and lets others find and request those items. Daata does not process any payments — all items are free.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the service.

a) Information you provide

  • Account details: your email address and a password (the password is securely hashed by our authentication provider — we never see it in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and profile picture from Google.
  • Profile: your display name and, optionally, a profile photo.
  • Listings: titles, descriptions, categories, condition, photos, and the pickup area/address you choose to share for items you post.
  • Communications: messages (text and images) you send to other users, item requests, ratings and reviews you write, reports you submit, and users you block.
  • Feedback: any content you send us through the in-app feedback feature (sent to support@daata.in).

b) Location information

With your permission, we access your device’s location (approximate or precise) to show you items near you and to send “new items near you” notifications based on a distance radius. You can choose a city instead of using GPS, and you control these permissions in your device settings at any time.

c) Information collected automatically

  • Push token: a device notification token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging / Expo) so we can deliver notifications you’ve enabled.
  • Usage and analytics data: screens viewed, features used, and interaction events, used to understand engagement and improve the App (via PostHog). This is tied to your account identifier after you sign in.
  • Technical data: basic device/app information needed to operate and secure the service.

We do not collect financial/payment information, and we do not knowingly collect data from children (see Section 9).

3. How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
  • To show listings, enable requests, chat, reviews, and hand-offs between users.
  • To show nearby items and send the notifications you opt into.
  • To keep the service safe — handling reports, blocks, and abuse.
  • To analyse usage and improve features and reliability.
  • To respond to your support and feedback requests.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We rely on your consent (e.g. for location and notifications), the performance of our terms with you, and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the service.

4. What is visible to other users

Daata is a community platform. The following are visible to other users by design:

  • Your display name and profile photo.
  • Listings you post (including the photos, description, and the pickup area you choose).
  • Ratings and reviews you give and receive.
  • Messages you send are visible to the user you send them to.

Please share only what you are comfortable making visible. Avoid posting precise home addresses publicly; share exact meeting details privately in chat.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:

  • Service providers (data processors) who run the App on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, realtime backend); Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (delivery of push notifications); PostHog (product analytics); Google (only if you choose Google Sign-In).
  • Other users, as described in Section 4.
  • Legal/safety: if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Daata, our users, or the public.

Some providers may process data on servers outside your country. We take steps to ensure appropriate protection for such transfers.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and uploaded files as described in our Account Deletion policy, except where we must retain limited information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or prevent abuse.

7. How we protect your data

  • Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
  • Access is enforced by row-level security so users can only access data they’re permitted to.
  • Passwords are stored only as secure hashes.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard measures.

8. Your rights and choices

  • Access/update: edit your profile, listings, and content in the App.
  • Permissions: control location and notification access in your device settings.
  • Delete your account and data: at any time, in-app or by request (see the Account Deletion policy, or email support@daata.in).
  • Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data. To exercise these, contact support@daata.in.

9. Children’s privacy

Daata is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country, if higher). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact support@daata.in and we will delete it.

10. Third-party links and services

The App relies on the third-party services named above, each governed by its own privacy policy (Supabase, Google/Firebase, PostHog). We are not responsible for the practices of third parties.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the new version with an updated “Last updated” date, and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
